MEET MESA NEW BOARD MEMBER: SAMUEL KANGETHE

We are thrilled to introduce MESA’s newest board member, Samuel Kangethe. Samuel is MESA’s first Steward alum to join our Board. Samuel first joined MESA’s U.S. program in 2016, where he completed Ecology Action’s Grow Biointensive internship in 2016. He then returned home and founded CESBA, a grassroots organization that promotes community empowerment and livelihood improvement through agroecology practices, Grow Biointensive agriculture and urban farming techniques. In 2019, Samuel returned for a second MESA stewardship to train in sustainable food systems and organic produce retail with the Natural Grocery Company in El Cerrito, CA. During his yearlong program, Samuel also joined MESA’s new AFFP program, hosted by the Center for Food Faith and Justice in Berkeley. Samuel is now back home in Kenya, planning to expand CESBA with a new land lease to develop a 2 hectare plot for community farm workshops and a site where our society can access vital social knowledge for a holistic community transformation and improved livelihood.

Samuel writes: “Thank you so much for offering this amazing opportunity to serve our farming communities around the world and be part of this esteemed organization. It’s a humbling experience. I look forward to working with this amazing team!”
