Reynaldo is part of the Luana Family

reynaldoMESA steward Reynaldo Levita from the Cusco region of Peru is making an impact at his host farm in Hawaii. Check out this blog written by his host farmer!

Reynaldo is finishing up his final month of his extended training program at Luana Farm in Captain Cook, Hawaii. Farmers Tim and Karen, are new to the MESA program this year and are excited to continue as hosts in the future. They are happy to discover that MESA stewards, like Reynaldo, are not only dedicated to  sustainable agriculture but also to joining in the culture and ties of a family farm. In true Hawaiian culture, Karen and Tim are proud to include Reynaldo in their family, or ‘Ohana.

From Karen’s words, “Frankly, I’m not sure how we managed so long without him. He has pruned coffee – helped Tim with numerous farm chores – and his legacy will be his expanded gardens…He is now a part of our family. `Ohana emphasizes that individuals are bound together and members must cooperate and remember one another. Every time I work in the new garden beds built by his hard work and determination, Reynaldo will be a part of the planting and harvest, for he is part of our `ohana.”
